Lighting, Fourth Edition

I am in my basement finished and ready, a site with background design, etc., I can picture my son. I have a decent camera for a point and shoot (Canon A630). . . and I hope to start a few old pictures of my 1 year. Since the basement has little or no natural light, I wonder what kind of lighting should I install to get high quality pictures. Do I have the lighting specifically for photography, or do I need to invest once again to create the kind of lighting by finishing in the area with a special light? I do not know much about the different types of photography lighting available, but I can use some of the advanced options on my camera. I’m definitely still improve an amateur in photography, but I hope to be. Any advice or tips would be very grateful!
